Garderobe (or latrine) refers to a medieval toilet. In a medieval castle, a garderobe was usually a simple hole discharging to the outside into a cesspit or the moat, depending on the structure of the building. The protruding shaft of masonry that made up the toilet was buttressed from below or might nestle in the junction between a tower and wall.
