The White Gate dates from the 17th century and was one of the final additions to the castle, Today, the modern entrance to and exit from the castle are through the White Gate. Only the basement part of the ground-floor wallings survive from this once-magnificent structure, which originally boasted finely-carved scallop-headed niches and magnificent windows.
